If you're marrying at the Broadmoor, one of the highlights of your wedding reception will be your wedding cake and, if you wish, a groom's cake. Wedding cakes at the Broadmoor are truly stunning. They are custom to you and the design choices are nearly limitless. A Broadmoor wedding cake is the crown jewel of any wedding reception at the Broadmoor. The cake sets the tone of the reception and reflects the style of the wedding couple. Here are some of my favorite Broadmoor wedding cakes from the last five years. So often a great wedding cake or groom's cake also tells a story. I love Barrell and Jacob's five-tiered wedding cake, left. It's literally covered with notes about about who they are and what they love to do together. But the story doesn't always have to be in writing:) Bonnie and Kelly's groom's cake
paints several scenes that have to do with Kelly's favorite pastimes. He's a TCU alum who loves hunting and fishing. Besides looks, Broadmoor wedding cakes are made to be yummy! The most popular flavors? Vanilla Bean Gateaux, Bailey's Chocolate Dream, Chocolate Mousse, Strawberries and Cream, Chocolate Rasberry Cake, Resse's Cake, Turtle Mousse Cake, Lemon, Carrot Cake and Almond Ganache. Your catering manager will assist you with selecting the perfect wedding cake. This includes a decadent tasting at the Broadmoor that will make you not want to eat for days! The Broadmoor pastry chefs are so good they can even make a cake without any artificial ingredients and specific to most dietary restrictions. Here are some helpful tips for displaying your wedding cake.
Make sure to "pin spot" light on your cake. A pin spot is a focused beam of light that shines directly onto an object as a highlight effect. It's a wonderful way to draw attention to your cake and make it stand out from the rest of the room. Make sure to have a backdrop in mind as well. A wedding cake up against a wall is not nearly as interesting as a wedding cake in the center of the room or on the dance floor. A great wedding cake deserves all of the attention it can get! Don't forget to ask for fondant icing. If you can't tell, I'm a huge fan. It's the fondant icing that allows the pastry chef more creativity. Plus, it's just really cool to look at:) So, what if you don't want a wedding cake at your reception? No worries. Cupcakes are very popular and can be displayed the same way as a wedding cake can. There are also a whole passel of dessert options.
The most popular desserts are Bananas Foster (a show unto itself), Crepes, Ultimate Sundae and Warm Chocolate Falls - just like it sounds:) And for those who've made it this far, you deserve to know about the Broadmor's apple pie wedding favors. The apple pies are made using the Broadmoor secret recipe:) Still not sure what kind of cake is for you? Maggie and Matt were married Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the historic Pauline Chapel. They celebrated with an evening reception at the Broadmoor's Cheyenne Lodge. The lodge sits in a secluded spot surrounded by Ponderosa pine trees in the hills above the resort. Maggie and Matt's wedding was a family affair and their wedding day
was the culmination of a week's worth of Thanksgiving events both families enjoyed. Much of Maggie's family traveled from Chicago and many had never visited Colorado before. Their wedding week was perfect for getting to know Colorado. The Broadmoor kicked off their Christmas celebrations on that weekend as well. Angie with Sapphire Celebrations helped with planning their wedding day. Design Works provided the floral arrangements and stunning red bouquet for Maggie that perfectly complimented her dress and the fur coat that belonged to Matt's mother. For the sake of light, Maggie and Matt decided to see each other before their ceremony and we took full advantage exploring the grounds of the Broadmoor. Winter light, for those in the know, can be the most beautiful of all because the sun sits low in the horizon throughout the day. After their ceremony, Maggie and Matt traveled to the lodge for a wonderful evening reception that featured a solo performance by Matt's Uncle, an incredible musician, Irish music courtesy of Maggie's father and two brothers as well as the incredible band VooDoo Syndicate. Thank you Maggie and Matt for inviting me to photograph your wedding day! — Sean
